Reaching Sephardic Jews

Make a donation for the Sephardic Jews Special Issue   Dear friend, I want to ask you to consider a special project. Since we published the September-October 2006 Special Edition on The Sephardic Jews, we have been inundated with requests to publish this issue in Spanish. As many of you know, The Sephardic Jews magazine focused on Hispanics who very likely have a Jewish background dating back to 1492 – to the Spanish Inquisition in Spain and Portugal. The magazine contains all things Sephardim, including a timeline of  3,000 years of Sephardic history – articles on Sephardic language, culture and tradition, commentary of Obadiah’s prophecy, and a Sephardic Hall of Fame. We noted prominent Hispanic names and individuals from a Jewish heritage, many of whom became Christians (originally many by force). We pointed out ways to have DNA checked, so that Hispanics (and indeed anyone) can discover if they are of Jewish descent. If confirmed, we’ve helped many through our Cyrus Fund make Aliyah (immigrate) to Israel. Since this special issue on Sephardic Jews first came out, many friends from Mexico, Latin and South America, and concentrations of Hispanics in the U.S. have continually written and called. Pastors have ordered 100 copies at a time. Some have translated individual articles into Spanish and photocopied them for their people. The interest and enthusiasm is amazing.  Always, they ask us the same thing. Can you make an edition in Spanish? Always, I have to say, “We do not have the extra funds to do it.”  We believe now is the time to issue a Spanish edition of The Sephardic Jews – but we cannot do it without your help!  A pastor of a Sephardic congregation in Arizona has graciously volunteered his time to complete all of the translation work and a group based in Mexico called Comfort Israel has rallied around him to help with any proofing.  Their volunteer efforts alone have saved thousands of dollars. I have gotten an estimate of $25,000 for the total cost of a Spanish language issue. This would include shipping and mailing costs. Humanly, it cannot be done – but we know that anything is possible with God.  Please pray about this project with us. Perhaps some can give a one-time significant donation in addition to what you already give. Perhaps some can fast and pray. Perhaps several can give significantly to make this a reality. Perhaps you know someone who might help. I know these are difficult times economically for all of us. And I certainly do not want you to cut your tithe or personal needs. But, if you can help with the Spanish Edition, we believe it will make a difference in the future for Israel.
