Another Arab-Israeli War?
By Gary Bauer, www.cwfpac.com

Every day that Barack Obama wastes trying to talk Iran out of its pursuit of nuclear weapons, brings us one day closer to the tyrants in Tehran possessing weapons of mass destruction. The Islamofascists who control Iran are not negotiating in good faith with the West, and they are not rational individuals. We got more evidence of that yesterday when Iran’s “president,” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told a cheering crowd Iran would “chop off the hands” of any attacker.

But, as usual, he reserved his harshest criticism for Israel. Given the reticence of the Obama administration to confront reality, Israel may have to act alone. Aware of that, Ahmadinejad warned that if Israel acts in self-defense, then “the regional countries will need to eradicate [Israel] once and for all.”

It seems unlikely that many Arab leaders would follow Iran’s Shiite fundamentalists into war with Israel. But as Osama bin Laden reminded us, the Muslim mentality is to follow the “strong horse.” And by his continued defiance of the West in pursuit of nuclear weapons, Ahmadinejad is clearly positioning Iran as the region’s “strong horse.” If the Arab world senses weakness from the White House and a waning commitment to Israel’s security from Washington, then Ahmadinejad may feel free to act on his desire to “wipe Israel off the map.”

One that calls for a Response
Each Friday we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Mosab Hassan Yousef, devout Christian and son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a Hamas founder and one of its leaders in the West Bank said:  "I wish I were in Gaza now. I would put on an army uniform and join Israel's special forces in order to liberate Gilad Shalit. If I were there, I could help. We wasted so many years with investigations and arrests to capture the very terrorists that they now want to release in return for Shalit. That must not be done." … "Hamas cannot make peace with the Israelis. That is against what their god tells them. It is impossible to make peace with infidels, only a cease-fire, and no one knows that better than I.   The Hamas leadership is responsible for the killing of Palestinians, not Israelis. Palestinians! They do not hesitate to massacre people in a mosque or to throw people from the 15th or 17th floor of a building, as they did during the coup in Gaza. The Israelis would never do such things. I tell you with certainty that the Israelis care about the Palestinians far more than the Hamas or Fatah leadership does."

God says: “If anyone is in the Messiah, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.” … “Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation. Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15)

The Jerusalem Connection says:  The vicious and visceral hatred embedded in the DNA psyche of the Islamic Jihadist precludes any real peace with them on the part of Jews or Christians. The only hope for a Jihadist is that he comes to Jesus. Mousab Hassan Yousef is an example of one whose change is a direct result of his conversion to Christ. Absent that conversion, the only realistic prayer for the Jihadist is the prayer of Asaph in Psalm 83. When Yahweh answers that prayer Israel’s enemies will be disposed of and there will be peace in Jerusalem.

Anti-Zionism or Anti-Semitism?

Crossing the Line: The Intifada Comes to Campus, produced by acclaimed filmmaker Raphael Shore, explores the proliferation of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incidents on North American college campuses.  In particular, the film explores the rapid growth of such incidents following the launch of Operation Cast Lead by Israel’s military into Gaza in late December 2008 and January 2009. The documentary demonstrates the blurring of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic lines, showing how the War evoked deep anti-Jewish sentiments amongst college students and professors.

“Shabbat”

Some believe Shabbat (the Sabbath) is the most important holiday in the Bible, the one day of the week when believers stop their work, seek to honor God and meditate on spiritual issues, and, well, to shabbat, rest. This painting contains the beautiful kneaded Challah bread which is traditional for Shabbat, a bottle of kosher wine with the word Tikveh (Hope), and a traditional white and blue prayer shawl which has written on it in Hebrew “Blessed be the One who gave us Shabbat.”  The menorah has two lions, signifying the lion of Judah and the lion of Ephraim.   We pray this artwork will be a joy and a blessing to you as you “remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.”
