|  US dismisses Iran's uranium claims

The United States doesn't believe Iran is capable of enriching uranium to the degree the Islamic Republic claims, the White House said on Thursdya night. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday that Iran had produced its first batch of uranium enriched to a higher level than before, raising fears it may be moving closer to the ability to produce material for a nuclear weapon. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs dismissed Iran's claims, saying that country's leadership had made a series of statements based on politics, not physics. The claim of new progress in Iran's nuclear program came a day after the US Treasury Department imposed new sanctions, freezing the assets in US jurisdiction of a Revolutionary Guard general and four subsidiaries of a construction firm he runs. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said: "We have reliable information ... that the Zionist regime is after finding a way to compensate for its ridiculous defeats from the people of Gaza and Lebanon's Hezbullah"… "If the Zionist regime should repeat its mistakes and initiate a military operation, then it must be resisted with full force to put an end to it once and for all." …"The Zionist regime in the region is in its weakest position in three years. This is the first time we see this regime facing two different and important defeats in our region, and this is the seventh time the Israeli forces have tried to enter Lebanon and force a war on the country."
The Jerusalem Connection says: The statements of both Robert Gibbs and President Ahmadinejad are colossal blunders of misperception. Gibbs underestimates the intentions and capacities of the Iranians. Ahmadinejad underestimates the same regarding Israel. Clearer heads would do well to seriously consider Israel’s intelligence assessment of Iran’s intentions and capabilities. After all, Israel considers Iran in terms of its own survival. The U.S. seems committed to an on-going diplomatic dance that is bound to end badly. With respect to Israel, the sooner they realize that it is only with Yahweh’s help will they defeat those bent on their destruction. Be assured they will come to that rude realization before Messiah comes.
