Why Israelis dislike Barack Obama?
by Bradley Burston

There are many people, gifted with rare intelligence and tolerance for humankind, who, when addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, run off the rails.

This week, it was the turn of former American Jewish Congress national director Henry Siegman. Noting opinion polls showing that a bare six to eight percent of the Israeli public supports Barack Obama, Siegman concludes that the dislike for Obama is a reflection not of the president's policies, but of something essential - and fundamentally defective - in the Israeli people itself:

"The Israeli reaction to serious peacemaking efforts is nothing less than pathological," Siegman writes, calling it "the consequence of an inability to adjust to the Jewish people's reentry into history with a state of their own following 2,000 years of powerlessness and victimhood."  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each Friday we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Jewish syndicated columnist, Charles Krauthammer said regarding Evangelical support of Israel: "I embrace their support unequivocally and with gratitude. And when I speak to Jewish groups, whether it's on the agenda or not, I make a point of scolding them. I say, 'You may not want to hear this, and you may not have me back, but I'm going to tell you something: It is disgraceful, un-American, un-Jewish, ungrateful, the way you treat people who are so good to the Jewish people. We are almost alone in the world. And here we have 50 million Americans who willingly and enthusiastically support us. You're going to throw them away, for what? Because of your prejudice.' Oh, I give 'em hell.'"

God says:
“I will call them ‘my people who are not my people’; and I will call her’ my loved one’ who is not my loved one.” … “It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people’ they will be called “sons of God.’ ” … “I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.” … “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.” (Hosea 2:23; Hosea 1:10; Deuteronomy 32:21; Isaiah 65:1)

The Jerusalem Connection says:
For many Jews it is a rude and jarring thought that somehow Jews and Christians are joined at the spiritual hip. Israel’s Orthodox Rabbi Benny Elon said, “Jews are Abraham’s seed by birth; Christians are the seed of Abraham by faith.” While we may see inklings of oneness between the two, the ultimate unity will come when both recognize the same Messiah. Till then, we welcome the insights of Krauthammer and those who know that the best friends Jews have on this planet are Christians who rightly discern the Bible.
