Rabbi Levi Brackman asks: Why are so many Jews atheists? [His answer]. The real cause of overwhelming Jewish atheistic tendencies seems to be a tragic ignorance of Judaism’s most profound teachings and ideas and therefore a juvenile understanding of the Jewish idea of a monotheistic God. God says: “Hear, O Israel: Yahweh our God, Yahweh is one! You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-6) The Jerusalem Connection says: Tragically, Jews have not been taught to call God by his name “Yahweh.” “This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.” (Exodus 3:15). Rather, they have been taught to call God by a title such as LORD, Adonai, or HaShem. These are titles, Yahweh is his name – the name that all the world will acknowledge at some time in the future. Sadly, Christian’s suffer from the same deprivation of the use of his name – most have never even heard it. Jesus said, “I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of Yahweh!’” (Psalm 118:26, Matthew 23:39). If we are eager to see the coming of the Messiah, we best start calling on the name of Yahweh. |
