With his trademark humility, President Obama noted in his speech this morning that "change cannot happen overnight" and that one speech in Cairo -- even delivered by him -- will not bring about world peace.
Oh, snap!
But if world peace is attained by complimenting those on the other side into submission, he made some serious progress.
Obama really buttered them up in Cairo.
He thanked them for everything from algebra to the pen, though he curiously failed to mention that they often throw people in prison for using it.
He even went so far as to tell the audience that he considers "it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."
Wow. That won't be the last time you hear that line.

Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home. | |  Marc Thiessen (at National Review's Corner blog) said: [President Obama’s] speech was rife with moral equivalence. The Iranian Revolution was bad, but so was the U.S. overthrow of Mossadeq in 1953. The Holocaust was bad, but "on the other hand" so is the Israeli occupation of Palestine. The events are not comparable.
Also little noticed was the fact that Obama announced a major shift in U.S. policy in the Holy Land. In 2002, President Bush declared in his Rose Garden address that America would only engage "Palestinian leaders not compromised by terror." In Cairo today, Obama reversed this policy, declaring that Hamas has "to play a role in fulfilling Palestinian aspirations, and to unify the Palestinian people." This is naïve and dangerous.
God says: “Woe to the obstinate children, declares the LORD, to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting me. … everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them, who bring neither help nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace. … Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.” (Isaiah 30:1-2, 5; 5:20-21).
The Jerusalem Connection says: On Wednesday, a seminar was co-hosted by Sarah Stern’s Emet (Endowment of Middle East Truth) and the Heritage Foundation in Washington DC. (http://www.emetonline.org/seminar2.html ) I was privileged to be one of the participants, speaking from a Christian Zionist perspective, alone with three dignitaries (two generals) from Israel and including the distinguished Daniel Pipes, Jonathan Schanzer and James Woolsey. The consensus of the speakers was that a two-state solution is no solution. This conclusion is especially heartening in view of the Obama administration’s determined commitment to impose a two-state solution. It is imperative that voices of these seminar participants be heard above and beyond the voice from Cairo. Failure must not be perpetuated regarding Israel and the Palestinians.
