Israel's Big Winner: 'Peace' Skeptics
By Benny Avni

ISRAELI voters threw a wrench into the plans of the world's peace processors - President Obama included.

Tzippi Livni's Kadima Party and Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud are close to a tie for the most seats in the next Knesset. The winner will probably have first shot at forming a government. Yet it's clear that the largest voting bloc will belong to politicians who scoff at the kind of territorial concessions that "internationalists" say Israel needs to make for peace with the Palestinians or with Syria.

The centrist-left Labor Party finished a distant fourth yesterday; other leftist parties were diminished. The winners were those who presume that as long as Iran and its proxies are armed and ready to fight, no amount of uprooted Jewish settlements will bring peace.

Whether Livni or Netanyahu leads the next government (or both, on a rotation basis), the next government will have to rely mostly on right-wing parties, who won the largest number of Knesset seats, and for whom "Bibi" Netanyahu is the natural leader.

Bibi's most convincing campaign appearance last month was in the thriving southern city of Ashkelon, where he popped up soon after missiles fell despite a post-Gaza-war cease-fire.

Bibi's ace argument was reminding voters of how he coined the word "Hamastan" when he resigned from Ariel Sharon's government in the summer of 2005, over Sharon's unilateral withdrawal from Gaza.  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Writing for The American Thinker, Michael M. Rosen said: "Indeed, Netanyahu's chief peace process argument is that true physical and political coexistence between Israel and the Palestinians will come about only through financial well-being.  Bibi believes that further concessions by Israel at this moment would only embolden the worst elements in Palestinian society, while steady, mutual economic expansion will sap the lifeblood of Islamic extremism. ... So while in most ways, Netanyahu and Obama seem far less well-suited for one another, ... a political partnership between the two isn't out of the question.  The American-Israeli relationship is, in today's parlance, 'too big to fail,' and both leaders will have little choice but to do all they can to preserve it."

God says: "In that day the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD ... In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. ... The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. In that day Israel will be the third along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. The LORD Almighty will bless them saying. 'Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.'" (Isaiah 19:19-25).

The Jerusalem Connection says: "The American-Israeli relationship ... to big to fail?" Let's hope so. But that will only happen if both pursue an agenda that is in sync with God's agenda. And God's agenda has no place for a "Land for Peace" solution or one which allows for the division of Jerusalem. While this may happen due to the "infinite wisdom" of our leaders, it will fail to pass muster with God. Indeed, God has spoken and He has not stuttered. "On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, 'To your descendants I give this land from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.'" (Genesis 15:18). Only as man's peace plans are in keeping with God's, is there any hope of success.

Lion to Ephraim

Make a $100 donation to The Jerusalem Connection and receive a personally signed print of original artwork--a wonderful gift for your "Valentine."

The Jerusalem Connection is offering this print of original artwork "I will be Like a Lion to Ephraim " by Pat Mercer Hutchens, art teacher and practicing artist.  Pat wants you to know that 100% of the donation goes to The Jerusalem Connection ministry.

From the artist:
This painting was done while our family was living in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. It was moved and inspired by the words of the prophet, Hosea:
“I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I will tear and walk away; I will take away and there will be no one to deliver. I will go, returning unto my place - until they are ashamed and they seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me early.”
“Come, let us return unto Yahweh. It’s true - He has torn - but He will heal us. He struck us with His own hand - but He will bind us up” (Hosea 5:14-6:1).

Buy this print from our online store and we will mail it out promptly to you or your special someone.
