Double Standard Watch: The moral blindness of some "religious leaders"
by Alan Dershowitz, Jpost.com

Bill Moyers holds himself out to be a moral arbiter, based in large part on his commitment to Christian principles. Cardinal Renato Martino is a prince of the Catholic church and President of the Council for Justice and Peace. Former President Jimmy Carter preaches peace, based on the teachings of Jesus. Yet when it comes to the conflict between Israel and Hamas, all three are morally blind.

In a widely watched television assessment of the recent conflict in Gaza, here is what Moyers said: "By killing indiscriminately the elderly, kids, entire families, by destroying schools and hospitals, Israel did exactly what terrorists do..." (emphasis added) Of course he also included the obligatory hedge that: "Every nation has the right to defend its people." Cardinal Martino went even further, making an obscene and historically ignorant, comparison between Israel's self-defense actions against rockets fired by Hamas at Israeli children, and the Nazi genocide against the Jews during the Holocaust. He said that the conditions in Gaza "resemble a big concentration camp."

Concentration camps, of course, were places where Jews were held until they could be processed through the machinery of death, as part of a massive genocidal program that willfully murdered 6 million Jews. Any comparison between Israel's action in Gaza and those of Nazis during the Holocaust is not only obscene, it is blatantly anti-Semitic, which is supposed to be a sin under Vatican law. (It is apparently not, however, a sin for a Catholic bishop to deny that the Holocaust occurred at all, since Bishop Richard Williamson of Great Britain was welcomed back into the Catholic church after claiming that there were no gas chambers and that the Jews are lying when they say that 6 million of them were killed, when according to that bigot in robes, a mere 300,000 Jews died during the entire Holocaust. The batty bishop - who, like the Taliban, opposes higher education for women - also believes that no airplanes were involved in the 9/11 attack and that the buildings were blown up by explosives and rockets, presumably set and fired by the United States and Israel.)    Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said: "The State of Israel views the Vatican's decision… with regret and concern,"  "The reinstatement of a Holocaust denier by the Holy See offends every Jew, in Israel and around the world, and humiliates the memory of all Holocaust victims and survivors. We expect the Holy See to decisively renounce all Holocaust deniers in general, wherever they may be, and Bishop Richard Williamson in particular.  We view the recent remarks made by the Holy See and senior Vatican officials admonishing the manifestation of Holocaust denial as the first step in the right direction, and expect more explicit and unequivocal decisions and statements on this issue." (Note: as of Feb. 4, 2009, The Vatican has informed Bishop Richard Williamson that he must recant his denial of the Holocaust before he can be fully readmitted to the Roman Catholic Church.)

God says:
"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness , who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight ... for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." (Isaiah 5:20-21, 24b).

The Jerusalem Connection says:
Thankfully the Vatican is requiring Bishop Williamson to recant. Not only were Jews world-wide infuriated at the Vatican's initiatial willingness to re-instate the errant Bishop, but so were a vast number of pro-Israel Catholics. With anti-Semitism growing -- being passed off as anti-Zionism or anti-Israelism -- Israel and the Jewish people will have an ever-increasing need to have all its friends, Catholic and Protestant, to stand with her. Our rallying cry must be, "For Zion's sake we will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake we will not remain quiet!"

Hamas: In their Own Voices

The media monitoring group MEMRI released an exclusive video, titled "Hamas: In Their Own Voices," which compiles a series of statements by Hamas leaders calling for the annihilation of Israel and of all Jews, for death to America, and for the Islamic conquest of the world.

Viewers will also see footage of military training for adults and kindergarten children, anti-american speeches at rallies including burning of the American flag and calls of support for "The Afghan Mujahidin", Hamas Al-Aqsa TV children's shows, and more.

The video clips all aired prior to the Gaza crisis…

Announcement

As a result of Israel’s recent encounter with Hamas, it is timely and appropriate to consider a new, common sense approach to the Two State Solution.  To that end, The Jerusalem Connection offers the following basic principles of a peace plan.

The Jerusalem Connection Peace Plan is based on a Christian Zionist perspective. If there is to be any hope of success, we are convinced there are aspects, until now absent from past peace plans, which must be reflected in any peace plan of the future.

Take time to read The Jerusalem Connection Peace Plan  and consider sharing it with your pastor, rabbi, congress person, senator, or local media.
