Israel's Policy Is Perfectly 'Proportionate'
Hamas are the real war criminals in this conflict.
By Alan Dershowitz

Israel's actions in Gaza are justified under international law, and Israel should be commended for its self-defense against terrorism. Article 51 of the United Nations Charter reserves to every nation the right to engage in self-defense against armed attacks. The only limitation international law places on a democracy is that its actions must satisfy the principle of proportionality.

Since Israel ended its occupation of Gaza, Hamas has fired thousands of rockets designed to kill civilians into southern Israel. The residents of Sderot -- which have borne the brunt of the attacks -- have approximately 15 seconds from launch time to run into a shelter. Although deliberately targeting civilians is a war crime, terrorists firing at Sderot are so proud of their actions that they sign their weapons.

When Barack Obama visited Sderot this summer and saw the remnants of these rockets, he reacted by saying that if his two daughters were exposed to rocket attacks in their home, he would do everything in his power to stop such attacks. He understands how the terrorists exploit the morality of democracies.  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Caroline Glick, senior contributing editor of the Jerusalem Post and the senior fellow for Middle Eastern Affairs at the Center for Security Policy, said: "The thing that concerns me about President-elect Obama's views of Israel and the Middle East is that they are heavily influenced by his advisers, many of whom are Clinton-administration veterans. And these advisers -- people like Richard Haass, Aaron Miller, Dan Kurtzer, and Martin Indyk, [Dennis Ross], to name just a few -- have built their careers championing a failed and dangerous peace process.

If Obama fails to recognize the folly of these advisers and replace them with men and women who use reality as their guide for policymaking, not only will he strengthen terrorist enemies of the U.S. like Hamas and Iran, he will weaken and endanger U.S. allies like Israel. So my advice to the incoming president would be to dump his Middle East team and replace it with advisers who have a clue.

To paraphrase someone you might have heard of once or twice, [William F. Buckley, Jr.], I'd rather have U.S. policy on the Middle East determined by the first 100 names in the Boston phone book than by this team whose policies have brought about the death of thousands in their pursuit of a fantasy of peace."

God says: "If my people would but listen to me, if Israel would follow my ways, how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!" … "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."  (Psalm 81: 13-14; Prov. 3: 5-6)

The Jerusalem Connection says: It is really quite remarkable that Israel, whose name is all over the Bible, and whose God has showered them with promised blessing if they would only follow him, finds no place for God's directives in her decision making. Having said that, it is likely that a peace agreement, short-term though it will be, will come as a result of Israel's confrontation with Hamas. And that could very well come early on in the Obama administration. Such a peace agreement could have significant Biblical implications like the confirmation of the Daniel 9:27 agreement. If that occurs, the count-down has begun. WATCH & PRAY!
