It's time once more to blame the Jews
By Wesley Pruden, Washington Times

The Israelis finally get enough of the constant rain of rockets on their border towns and villages, fired by Hamas thugs recognized by nearly everybody as international jackals, and strike back to stop it. Guess who the villains are.

Those international thugs have become expert at retail death, killing one or two Jews one day, occasionally three or four on another, but rarely enough to make the front pages in London or Paris, Washington or New York. Death-by-rocket in Ashkelon and other cities, towns and villages in southern Israel is bad, but like other urban inconveniences not something to "overreact" to. This is the inevitable message to Israel. The grim and unrelenting war in the Middle East can be relieved in the soft salons of the West by turning to the inside pages of the morning newspaper to read about a new restaurant or a review of the latest movie, or by changing the channel to watch a chef demonstrate how to make a fluffy souffle. The Israelis have no such luxury.

Life is not so nice and easy on the ground where "the peace process" is played out with death from the sky. Because the Hamas terrorists have perfected provocation as an art of war, the blame is attached to Israel by those always eager to "blame it on the Jews," and by a media unable to make distinctions and eager to draw moral equivalence between provocateur and the provoked.

"There was a shocking quality to Saturday's attacks," the New York Times observed of Israel's emphatic response to the incessant rocket attacks, which began in broad daylight as police cadets were graduating, women were shopping at the outdoor market, and children were emerging from school. The "overreaction" of the Israelis soon ruined this happy scene of domestic tranquility, turning it into "a scene of chaotic horror, with rubble everywhere, sirens wailing, and women shrieking as dozens of mutiliated bodies were laid out on the pavement ... so that family could identify them."  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Dore Gold said: The charge that Israel uses disproportionate force keeps resurfacing whenever it has to defend its citizens from non-state terrorist organizations and the rocket attacks they perpetuate. From a purely legal perspective, Israel's current military actions in Gaza are on solid ground. According to international law, Israel is not required to calibrate its use of force precisely according to the size and range of the weaponry used against it (Israel is not expected to make Kassam rockets and lob them back into Gaza). …disproportionality would occur if the military sought to attack even if the value of a target selected was minimal in comparison with the enormous risk of civilian collateral damage. This point was made by Luis Moreno-Orampo, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, on February 9, 2006, in analyzing the Iraq War. He explained that international humanitarian law and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court "permit belligerents to carry out proportionate attacks against military objectives, even when it is known that some civilian deaths or injuries will occur." The attack becomes a war crime when it is directed against civilians (which is precisely what Hamas does) or when "the incidental civilian injuries would be clearly excessive in relation to the anticipated military advantage." In fact, Israeli legal experts right up the chain of command within the IDF make this calculation before all military operations of this sort.

God says: "I will be an enemy to your enemies and I will oppose those who oppose you."… "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish…Those who wage war against you will be as nothing as all. For I am the LORD, your God who takes hold of  your right hand and says to you, 'Do not fear.'" (Exodus 23:22; Isaiah 41:11-13).

The Jerusalem Connection says: Let's never forget, it is Israel's anti-Zionist enemies that predictably cry "disproportionate response" whenever Israel retaliates against the never-ending rocket attacks from Jihadists who want to annihilate them. Regardless of the pressure from world opinion that will inevitably include the United States, Israel must be encouraged to press on to the total defeat and neutralization of Hamas. Important as that is, we are urging all our readers to take note of our stand in support of Israel and to contact President Bush, Secretary of State Rice and your elected congress person and senators. Urge them not to push for a cease fire, but rather that Israel be allowed to terminate the threat of Hamas Jihadists.

After sisters' deaths, Palestinian girl blames Hamas
by Palestinian Media Watch

A young Palestinian girl in an interview with the Palestinian Authority TV blames Hamas for her sisters' deaths in Gaza.  The interview is very significant. At a time of extreme stress and grief, the girl blames Hamas and not Israel -- likely echoing a sentiment she has heard from adults. If this sentiment is representative of growing anger among Gaza residents at Hamas for the destruction it has caused, it has major significance and could have ramifications on the long-term position of Hamas in Palestinian society.  Given the significance of the girl's accusation, it is surprising that some media outlets have run the interview, without including the quote in which the girl blames Hamas.

Statement of Support

The Jerusalem Connection joins the Christian Zionist community in support of Israel in its response to the continous rocket/missile attacks of Hamas Jihadists. For any hope of peace between Israel and the Palestinians, Hamas must be defeated, disarmed and its infrastructure dismantled. Any thing less, Hamas will consider a psychological victory. We must remember, Hamas is solely responible for the action that Israel has been compelled to take. Israel has the justifiable right and responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its people. It must settle for nothing less from any peace partner than the ceasation of all terrortist activities, the acknowledgment of Israel’s right to exist and compliance with all previous agreements. The words of Vegitius, the Roman military historian are relevant today, “He who desires peace must prepare for war.”
