Obama's unique appeasement style
Caroline Glick, The Jerusalem Post

Spin doctors were relabeled "strategists" in the early 1990s. And as Mark Steyn wrote last week in National Review, "Increasingly, the Western world has attitudes rather than policies."

The latest attitude to be flouted as policy is indignation. Specifically, Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama's furious indignation at President George W. Bush's address before the Knesset last week where he celebrated Israel's 60th anniversary and extolled the US's alliance with Israel. Beyond praising the Jewish people's 4,000 year-old devotion to the Land of Israel and to liberty, Bush used the speech to warn against those who think that Iran and its terror proxies can simply be wished away through appeasement.

As the president put it, "Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided. We have an obligation to call this what it is - the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history." Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Israel's far-left daily newspaper Ha'aretz said: “The 2005 withdrawal from the Gaza Strip was a mistake that has made life worse for both Gazan Arabs and Israelis living within rocket range of the territory. … As uncomfortable as it is to admit, the data suggests that the Israeli occupation did well by Gaza. … Instead, the pullout helped propel Hamas into power, emboldened Palestinian terrorist rocket crews, and opened the gates for far greater Iranian influence and an influx of sophisticated arms."

God says: “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. … Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, and a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.” (Jeremiah 2:13; 17:5-7).

The Jerusalem Connection says: Tragically, both the U.S. and Israel are trying desperately to apply political and diplomatic solutions to problems that are spiritual at their core. Rest assured the Palestinian/Iranian Jihadists see the conflict as basically religious. President Bush boldly declared in his speech before Israel’s Knesset that the modern State of Israel “was the redemption of an ancient promise given to Abraham and Moses and David — a homeland for the chosen people Eretz Yisrael.” Now, if he would act consistently with that declaration and cease and desist pressuring Israel to give up the “promised homeland,” the future for Israel and the Palestinians would be much brighter.
As it is, “The Road Map to Peace” is a colossal failure. Hopefully the future leaders of Israel and the U.S. will come up with a new peace plan that will affirm God’s covenant promises for a Jewish homeland.

The Jewish service heard around the World

In 1944, in occupied Germany, NBC radio, together with the American Jewish Committee and Rabbi Sidney Lefkowitz, broadcast the first Jewish service since the rise of Hitler. Listen to that historic event in this short film, produced on the 60th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Announcement

Any plans this weekend?
Skip the long wait times and early reservations!  Join volunteers across the globe for the first ever Dine in for Shiloh, a phantom dinner party.  Instead of getting dressed up, filling up the gas tank, and hiring a babysitter, fire up your grill or just grab a bowl of Cheerios.

By forsaking date night to Dine in for Shiloh you can donate the money you save to the Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund (SICF).  SICF is an organization dedicated to helping terror victim children in Shiloh to live happy and productive lives in the heartland of Israel by providing their much needed emotional and physical therapy.  Last spring The Jerusalem Connection raised over $10,000 for SICF at our Night to Honor Israel and we are hoping to raise that again this year.

Check out our Dine In menu to read about the various SICF projects you can give towards.  Or make a donation to SICF in memory of Yonatan Eldar, 16 of Shiloh, who was killed by a Muslim terrorist while studying Torah in the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva on March 6, 2008.

Since this is a faux dinner party you can do it any night you want and send the donation at any time.  And unlike the restaurant bill, all donations to Dine In For Shiloh are tax deductible!
