Israel: God's undeniable miracle
by Paula R. Stern (Israel national news)

They say a girl never forgets her first love, and I realized this morning as I think about the coming days, that this is true. I fell in love at the age of 13. I didn’t know the meaning of so many things at that age, but I felt a sense of commitment that remains to this day. The object of my desire was the State of Israel. Looking back, I can’t imagine that I understood what life would truly be like to actually live here, but even then, I knew that there was no where else I would want to be, no other land to which I could commit myself and my future.

It took me another twenty years to get here and by that time, I’d met the love of my life and together we had brought three children into the world. Making aliyah, moving to Israel, meant a commitment not only to Israel, but a challenge and a change for my growing family. With one son in the army and another on the edge, I seem to be especially emotional this year. Things that never bothered me, somehow seem more wrong to me now.

I’m emotional in the sense that I find I reject the opinions on both sides of the plain upon which I have chosen to make my life. I object to those who say Zionism is dead and that we live in a post-Zionist era. Zionism is the dream and the reality of the Jewish people making their home in this land. It is alive and well in the thousands who came to live here, last summer, the summer before that, and the many more thousands who are packing even now. Zionism is alive and well in my heart and the hearts of my children, my friends, my community.  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Academy Award winning actor Jon Voight said: “I’m coming to salute, encourage and strengthen the people of Israel on this joyous 60th birthday.” ... “This week is about highlighting Israel as a moral beacon. At a time when its enemies threaten nuclear destruction, Israel heals… Israel is a haven from nuclear horrors for thousands of Chernobyl survivors who suffer the consequences of the worst environmental disaster in history." ... "Every day you have rockets falling on your city. We care about you. We have not forgotten you!’ And I want to underscore Israel’s magnificent contributions to mankind."

God says:
"I will surely gather them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. They will be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them a singleness of heart and action so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will most assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul." (Jeremaiah 32:37-41).

The Jerusalem Connection says:
We join with Jews, Israelis, Christian Zionists and men of good will everywhere in celebrating Israel's 60th re-birthday. Indeed, it is a partial fulfillment of God's irrevocable covenant to provide a national homeland for the Jewish people. Israel's re-birth is the beginning of a work in progress that will eventuate in the redemption of Israel when Messiah comes (again). Israel, at 60, faces the same diabolical forces committed to her destruction as she has since Biblical times. The immediate future promises more of the same. That threat gives a further challenge to Christian Zionists to stand firm in their support of our Jewish elder brothers and sisters.
