My response to Rabbi Eric Yoffie
by Jan Willem van der Hoeven

It is truly amazing how self-destructive some of the Jewish leaders are in their relationship to those who, as never before, want to stand at Israel's side at a time when its precious people are again threatened with genocide, as they were by the Nazis.

The recent remarks of Dr. Eric Yoffie - head of the Union for Reform Judaism in the United States - are only one example of this self-destructiveness which repeatedly reveals itself, especially in relation to what even Israel's top politicians have described as the best friends Israel has among the Gentiles today.

It is sad and appalling that, whereas Christians have been rightfully upbraided for not having done what they could to assist the Jewish people before and during the days of the Holocaust, and whereas many Christians have now learned at least this lesson of history and wish to fight for Israel's survival in the face of the new and ever-growing danger of elimination, these tender-hearted Christians are now rebuked by the very people who once justifiably criticized them before concerning the Holocaust.

What, then, is Dr. Yoffie's narrow-minded reasoning for rejecting this worldwide Christian support as shown today in many forms, organizations, and actions?  Continue Reading>>

One that calls for a Response
Each week we take a meaningful quote, tie it to scripture, and leave you with a take-home.

Israeli Minister of National Infrastructure Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said: "An Iranian attack will prompt a severe reaction from Israel, which will destroy the Iranian nation."

(Israel is conducting the massive five-day emergency drill in response to mounting regional threats, including Iran's nuclear program and the Iranian leadership's openly stated desire to eradicate Jewish sovereignty from the region. On Tuesday, the drill simulated a non-conventional missile strike on Israeli population centers. Defense officials fear that even if Iran itself refrains from firing missiles at Israel, it is supplying a large number of such weapons to its Hizballah proxy in Lebanon. In related news, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proudly announced on Tuesday that his nation had begun installing an additional 6,000 advanced centrifuges for the enrichment of uranium. Iran already has 3,000 uranium enrichment centrifuges on line.)

God says:  "It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the LORD your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people." (Deuternomy 9:5-6).

The Jerusalem Connection says:  Indeed, today Israel's leadership is demonstrating once again they never miss an opportunity to flaunt a stiff-necked attitude against God's revealed will. Coupled with the administration's crazed obsession for a "Two-State Solution" before President Bush leaves office, only cries aloud for new responsible and realistic leadership in both Israel and the U.S. There is no deterrent threat or diplomatic negotiations that will bring about Rabbi Yoffie's and the President's utopian fantasy of Israel and the Palestinians living side by side in peace. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, a military victory over the Iranian armies in the south (Hamas etc.) and in the north (Hizballah) must precede any political negotiations.  The speed bumps are getting fewer. As a matter of survival Israel will be forced to launch a "severe reaction ... which will destroy the Iranian nation." Shabbat Shalom!

Yes, we are Guilty! We are guilty of being Christian Zionists. We are guilty of trying the best we knew at the time to identify with the Jewish people. We are guilty of having a passion for activating God's covenant of love for His treasured possession. We are guilty of loving Israel in a way that only dimly reflects God's eternal love for them. We are guilty of weeping over the Land and people as Jesus did. This book is our heartfelt letter of love to Israel; we are Christians for Israel!
